Crochet Filter / ai crochet filter
AI crochet filter
An AI crochet filter is an image edit, not a face sticker. The model reads the uploaded photo and the yarn prompt together, then returns a new picture. Crochet Filter sends that job to fal.ai (Flux Kontext by default) or to OpenAI's image edit model. The operator picks the provider with an environment variable.
If no API key is set, a local yarn-stitch preview runs instead so the site still works. That preview is labeled. It is not the amigurumi model. Treat a mock result as a flow demo, not as the trend look.

How the crochet filter works
- 01
Upload a photo on the homepage.
- 02
Generate. The response tells you whether the provider was mock, fal, or OpenAI.
- 03
Download the watermarked preview or a paid full-resolution file.
Questions people actually ask
- Which AI model makes the doll?
- With FAL_KEY set, the default is fal-ai/flux-pro/kontext. Set FAL_MODEL to swap in another fal image-edit model. With only OPENAI_API_KEY, the default is gpt-image-1. IMAGE_PROVIDER=auto prefers fal, then OpenAI, then mock.
- Is the AI crochet filter private?
- Originals auto-delete. Results stay until you delete them, or until the retention window if you never publish them. Public gallery items stay until you remove them.
- Why do two runs of the same photo differ?
- Image edits are not fully deterministic unless the provider is given a seed. The default request does not pin a seed, so a retry can move the stitches.
